The moated castle in Rügland, first mentioned in a document in 1137, consists of the half-timbered building of the old castle and the new castle and has been owned by the barons of Crailsheim since 1584 to this day. From April 1714, Hannibal Friedrich Freiherr von Crailsheim had the "New Palace" built, which forms the central and southern wings of the entire complex. The plans came from Baron Karl Friedrich von Zocha, who later became the Ansbach court architect and margravial minister.

The first floor of the "New Castle" now serves as a family museum for the Lords of Crailsheim, who still live in the castle in the summer, and as an event location.
