"The parish widow's house was built from wood and clay in 1719 - 1720 and is currently one of the oldest preserved houses on Rügen.
After the pastor Johannes Cadow died in 1718 and a woman with 4 children had to leave the parsonage, the Danish provincial government based in Stralsund commissioned the governor John from Bergen to build a parish widow's house in Groß Zicker. In 1720 the widow was able to move into the house with her 4 children.
The last parish widow -Sophia Vahl- lived in the parish widow's house from 1782 - 1810. From 1811 - 1830 the house served as a school and until 1984 it was a residential house. In 1984 the last resident of the house, Anna Glutsch, moved out of the parish widow's house after her ancestors had lived in this house for over 4 generations. The high, pointed straw or reed roof, the so-called »Sugar Loaf«. When looking at it, the visitor notices that this house has no chimney. It is a so-called rare "Rookhus" - the Low German term for a smoke house. The smoke from the stove used to escape through the large entrance gate and through the small opening in the roof ridge - the owl hole.
