The picturesque Market Square in Wouw is dominated by the large, late Gothic St. Lambertus Church from the early sixteenth century. The master builder was probably a member of the famous Keldermans family, who also designed the Marquis's city palace in Bergen op Zoom, the Markiezenhof. The interior contains beautiful wooden statues, the so-called Wouwse 'mannekes', and a stained glass window by Joep Nicolas.

At the foot of the church is the former town hall, designed by the famous architect Joseph Cuypers.

In 1200, there was a chapel in Wouw named "Our Lady in the Forest." This is the current name of the parish.
The first stone church building was constructed in 1270.
In 1277, the Lambertus parish in Wouw belonged to the Cistercian Abbey of St. Bernard on the Scheldt River in Hemiksem, near Antwerp.
In the 15th century, a much larger tower, similar to the current one, was built alongside the existing one.
In 1581, the nave and aisles burned down.
In 1648, after the Eighty Years' War, the church passed into the hands of a group of Protestants. The Catholics took refuge in bomb shelters.
This ended in 1795 thanks to the French Revolution.
In 1801, the Catholics regained their church.
In 1824, the nave was restored. In 1874, the ties with the Cistercian Abbey of St. Bernard on the Scheldt River ended.
Restoration began in 1937.
In 1944, the church was destroyed by the violence of the Second World War.
In 1951, the church was beautifully rebuilt and reconsecrated.
In 2001, the then Lambertus parish was incorporated into the new parish of Our Lady in the Forest.
In 2019, the Lambertus Church in Wouw was designated the central parish church.

The Lambertus Church is fully open every Sunday from Whit Monday to September 22nd.
