The archeological trail runs around the mountain, with the main focus being on the south ascent. Several information boards provide information about the life of the Celts and the mountain itself. Interesting to read and informative, a visit to the Steinsburg Museum rounds it all off.

The Celtic Adventure Trail (also known as the Celtic Experience Trail) is a long-distance hiking trail in Thuringia and Bavaria.
It is 254 kilometers long and passes numerous museums and archaeological sites commemorating the Celtic era.
It runs primarily through deciduous forest and is also accessible by mountain bike.
There are also numerous archaeological sites, museums, and scenic natural experiences to discover.
Seven mountains with diverse views give the trail a varied course.

The ascent begins at the information board about the Gleichberg natural area.

The path from the Waldhaus is the most frequently used ascent and also the most modern.

It was created when basalt was mined for transport and suggests a natural access to the mountain.

The main path crosses the "Schwarzen-Stock-Weg", which leads to Dingsleben (approx. 1.5 km).

The direct ascent continues straight ahead to the rest and information area on the outer fortification ring and to the Seeberhütte (shelter).

From here you have to climb uphill on narrower paths.

After a short distance the path turns sharply to the right and passes a stone wall, which represents the hook-shaped end of the main wall.

Going uphill we reach one of the terraces on the mountain that is ideal for settlement.

The last short climb leads to the Jacobsmauer, a section of the upper fortification ring, which is also known as the older main wall. The viewing point at the Jacobsmauer offers a view to the north over the upper Werra area to the Thuringian Forest.
From the left in the northwest you can see the Wachenbrunn transmitter, near the Widderstatt settlement, the Dolmar, the Inselsberg, the Ringberghaus above Suhl and the Bleß transmission masts near Eisfeld to the right to the northeast.
Our path now leads to the summit level of the Kleiner Gleichberg, which is surrounded by a largely well-preserved wall, the Gipfelring.
The long, narrow plateau at a height of 641.5 m, also called the Acropolis, is exposed to the elements.
The southern tip of the Kleiner Gleichberg makes up for the effort of the climb.
In the foreground is the Große Gleichberg with the Steinsburg Museum at its foot.
Notable points are the Straufhain, the Heldburg, also called the Franconian Light, and when visibility is good you can see Veste Coburg and the Staffelberg on the Main on the horizon.
The descent can be done the same way as the ascent or via a narrow path along the east side.
The east side path rejoins Sandbrunnenstraße at the Seeberhäuschen.

The ascent and descent takes about 2.5 hours.

Those who prefer a longer hike can also choose the descent to the north (Route 2) and return from the "Schwarzer Stock" along the path of the same name to the Waldhaus (approx. 4 km).
