Lungolago Ascona

Ascona has developed from a once inconspicuous fishing village into a small town with 5,000 inhabitants. The old car-free town center with the Piazza Guiseppe Motta and the alleys and courtyards behind it has largely been preserved. The Ascona waterfront promenade is widely considered to be the most beautiful promenade on Lake Maggiore.

Ascona is also the birthplace of Giovanni Antonio Serodine, one of the greatest painters of the 17th century in Italy, whose precious works are still kept there. Thanks to the presence of important intellectuals and artists, the town has been a meeting place for Central European culture since the beginning of the 20th century.
