The Bochum Railway Museum is a railway museum in the southwest of Bochum. It was founded in 1977 by the German Society for Railway History on the site of the railway depot in Dahlhausen, built between 1916 and 1918 and closed in 1969, and has been operated by the Bochum Railway Museum Foundation since 2011. Covering an area of approximately 46,000 m², it is the largest private railway museum in Germany. The focal point of the museum is the 14-station locomotive shed with a 20-meter turntable, water tower, workshops, and locomotive maintenance facilities such as the coaling station, water crane, and sand tower. There are also two additional exhibition halls with tracks on the site. There is also a working 600 mm narrow gauge railway. The entire complex of the former railway depot is a listed building. Germany's largest private railway museum is located on the site of the former Bochum-Dahlhausen railway depot. More than 120 rail vehicles from 1853 to the present day are on display there.
