Sometimes nature reserves are named after people or organizations who have been directly or indirectly significant there. Examples of Het Limburgs Landschap are the Curfs quarry, the Van Tienhoven mill and the Klinkenberghbos. In 2020, a fourth area was added, the Groeve Blom. It is a quarry where sand, pebble and marl were extracted from the mid-1950s. The former operator and namesake of the quarry has transformed the seven-hectare area into a true natural paradise after the exploitation has ended. Steep slopes of marl rocks alternate with flowery, flatter parts. A large puddle has formed in a deep hole and there are small, regularly drying pools throughout the quarry. Together with a group of enthusiastic volunteers, the previous owner maintained the special natural values. Het Limburgs Landschap – since Mr Blom entrusted the management to us in 2019 – of course continues to do so.
