In the Dommeldal near Kasteren above Liempde there is a historic farm that always ends up high on lists of the most beautiful and important farms in Brabant. For several centuries it has been referred to as Het Groot Duijfhuis.
The name is derived from a characteristic pigeon tower that was built here in 1661 and which is still part of the complex, but the farm is much older. As early as the fourteenth century, it is mentioned in sources as the property of Jan van Derentheren and his children from Den Bosch. In 1450 it came into the hands of the Den Bosch canon Ludolf van de Water, who on November 30, 1471, donated it, together with farms in Olland, Gemonde, Son and Den Dungen, to the Carthusians of Sint-Sophia who had moved into a new monastery in Vught. .
