Thanks to the cooperative work between the voluntary nature conservationists (BUND), the Coesfeld Agricultural Office, the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Homeland and Cultural Care and the local farmers, all areas are now in public hands and are managed in a way that is compatible with nature conservation. Today, some sections of the Welter Bach have been renaturalized, arable land has been converted into pastures and grassland areas have been extensified. Large areas have been grazed by Galloway cattle all year round since 1995.
