Around the town of Bodie, prospectors were mining for mercury that was processed in this well-preserved mill. You can participate in a guided tour, where a ranger explains a lot of the history and funtionality of the historic mill.

If you have the chance, be sure to visit this ghost town. Incredibly interesting, great photo opportunities. Not so crowded.
Admission was ok, $15 or so. Quite new sanitary area with water point.
No smoking in the city!!! Pack enough drinks!!! Little shade and still quite warm (August).
A special highlight are the Bodie Days. They take place a few times a year, horse-drawn carriage rides are possible, many people wear clothes from the period...(people from the club who want to preserve Bodie)
I really liked it! It's best to stay overnight in the vicinity...because time flies by in the ghost town.

Bodie is great fun, there is so much to discover and endless photo opportunities. The journey is a bit bumpy, be careful with rental cars. Unfortunately it can only be reached by car. In any case, plan to stay for a few hours. The visit can also be easily combined with a visit to Mono Lake. Then that's a full day.
