Since 1989, the Electoral Armory has served as the administration building for the district of Amberg-Sulzbach. In 1994 its extensive renovation was completed. The east and north wings of the complex were built under Elector Philipp around 150 as administration building 2 for the district of Amberg-Sulzbach. An electoral armory master can be proven for the first time in 1512. The construction of the south wing, which was completed in 1607, took place under the governorship of Prince Christian of Anhalt and with the participation of the Palatinate master builder Johann Schoch. The armory lost its actual function as early as 1743 and was finally dissolved in 1778. Different uses of the subsequent period also brought changes to the building. The most serious of these were the additions of stables for the cavalry horses. In 1945 it was severely damaged by a major fire. It has served the district of Amberg-Sulzbach as an administration building since 1989, and its extensive renovation was completed in 1994.
