      Extract from the sign:
"Sandbruch" Hohe Straße "(508 m. Above sea level)
The Obere Stubensandstein stands along this ridge. It is often quite friable. The speckling caused by iron and manganese compounds (tiger sandstone) is also characteristic. In the parlor sandstone there are also fossil woods that were washed ashore and embedded as driftwood.
The sandstone found here can easily be beaten and has been mined for centuries by the residents of the surrounding villages as construction and sweeping sand. The name of the parlor sandstone comes from this use for sweeping wooden floors. Between 1965 and 1977 the local sand quarry was operated commercially and expanded considerably. The excavation floor reached partly thicker clay layers. After the end of mining, ponds fed by rainwater were created on this impermeable layer, which have meanwhile become a valuable habitat for many plant and animal species.
The dry sand areas were mainly recultivated with oaks. Pine, larch and deciduous trees still flew by nature.
A rare and delightful flora has emerged across the entire area, e. B. different types of gorse. These plants are dependent on the raw, undeveloped soil and the low, light stand structure. However, natural succession will lead to the disappearance of this flora through soil development and stand closure. For this reason, human intervention will constantly be necessary, at least in parts of the biotope, in order to artificially preserve the forest at an early stage of development. This special community can only be protected through care.

It's a good thing that only very few possibilities are allowed here in the beautiful heather-like area! 👍🏼
