The medieval Cistercian monastery still consists of buildings that were built in the 11th century. In the 16th century the order took over the Protestant creed and is still Protestant today. The site and the historical buildings can be visited. There is now a pilgrim's house on the site where you can spend the night.

Loccum Monastery (Lucca or Luca) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Rehburg-Loccum, Lower Saxony, near the Steinhuder Meer. Going back to a foundation of Count Wilbrand von Hallermund, it was established in 1163 as a branch of the Volkenroda monastery in Thuringia, with which it is connected today by the Loccum – Volkenroda pilgrimage route. The primary abbey is the Morimond Monastery. Today, Loccum Monastery, along with Maulbronn Monastery in Baden-Württemberg, is considered to be the best-preserved Cistercian monastery north of the Alps.
The Loccum Monastery is an 'independent spiritual body' in the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover. It serves ecclesiastical purposes within the regional church.
The buildings are now used as a seminar for preachers, as a conference center, as an excursion destination and for music events such as the KlosterKlangFestival since 2015. In 2013 the monastery celebrated its 850th anniversary.

Today the Loccum monastery is home to the only seminary of the Hanover regional church. Here theologians are prepared for practical activities in the pastoral office after they graduate from university. In addition, retreat meetings are offered in the monastery. Church and secular groups also have the opportunity to use the monastery for their own meetings.

Services in the monastery church: Sun. 10:00 am
Every evening at 6 p.m. (except on Sundays and public holidays) the HORA is celebrated in the monastery in the tradition of the Cistercian monks.

"Music for a stop": Every Sunday at 5.30 p.m. at different locations in the monastery, a variety of sounds are played, inviting you to pause and listen. (Refectory / collegiate church / inner courtyard / cloister)
Monastery café: Mon.-Thurs. 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., Fri-Sun 11.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m., in good weather also until 9.00 p.m.
Two pilgrimage routes are closely linked to the monastery.
