The Wittmarshof chapel is situated in a very scenic location - somewhat elevated in the middle of the Gartal valley at the foot of the Gleichen. The cycle path from Göttingen to Duderstadt also leads directly past the chapel.
The small chapel was built on a massive sandstone basement around 1580 and is today the last striking testimony from the time of the Hessian official residence Wittmarshof. The bell in the roof rider is dated 1696. The weather vane dates from 1819 - probably also the half-timbered gable.
The chapel has an eventful history behind it. At the beginning of the eighties of the last century, the chapel, which was in danger of decay, was restored and has since then again served the Sattenhausen parish as a place of worship. Especially in spring and summer, the congregation celebrates church services here and there, for example on Ascension Day.
The chapel can also be rented for weddings and baptisms or other church services, but also for other events.
