Built in 1565 by Jacopo da Cannobio for the noble Pietro Grossi, the Palace stands inside a large park and has belonged to the Municipality of Ravenna since the end of the 20th century. Victim of a strong deterioration, it has been closed to the public for decades.

With the extinction of the Grossi family, the building changed hands and was also used for non-residential purposes. In 1830 it was purchased by the Rasponi counts until, on the death of Count Cesare Rasponi Bonanzi, the building was purchased by an agricultural cooperative which held it until the beginning of the 1900s when it was sold to the Sama brothers who transferred their tobacco production. After the Second World War it was first purchased by the direct growers cooperative of Castiglione, then by the CEM (Consorzio Exercise Machinery) and finally, in 1986, by the Municipality of Ravenna which is its current owner.

Today, after several restoration interventions, the last of which, on the roof, dates back to 1996, the building is presented on the outside in almost intact conditions, but on the inside, due to long periods of abandonment and unscrupulous use (especially the conservation, inside, of damp materials), the situation is progressively deteriorating.

Currently the park surrounding the building is used for the organization of theatrical performances, concerts and events.
