          The Hölzbach works its way towards the valley over several levels of slate rock.
          While the Dhron down in the valley mostly works around or over Qurazite rocks, here the slate layers offer numerous steps and also long slopes, over which the water is constantly looking for new paths and the spray forms an excellent contrast to the slate rock.
          Very nice, but dangerous when approaching because the slate rocks are as smooth as soft soap all year round!

                          On the heights of the Haardtwald - a ridge and closed forest area on a quartzite ridge extending 15 km from east to west and 6 km from north to south - small watercourses to form the Hölzbach collect northwest of the town of Morbach-Merscheid. Reinforced by other side streams, the Hölzbach initially flows through a valley to the Dhrontal. In the wooded part that follows, the Hölzbach runs like a gorge through a gorge.
