Atterheide airfield is operated as a commercial airport by the Osnabrück Aero Club, founded in 1955. Aviation here actually dates back to 1912 on the land leased by the Ostman von der Leye family (see Gut Leye). Around 10,000 aircraft take off and land here every year during year-round operations. Cyclists and hikers can enjoy watching the hustle and bustle here.
Thanks to the adjacent restaurant and café "Leonardo", you can also eat here from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. (Sat/Sun 10:00 a.m.). Coffee and cake are also served in the afternoon.
