Wine was already being grown on Kapellenberg in the 13th century. On Paul Pfinzing's Spessart map (1594), the Mainaschaffer Weinberg is not only marked with a corresponding symbol, but also explicitly labeled "Weinberg". This fact is all the more remarkable as on this oldest surviving Spessart map, which shows the Main Valley from Gemünden to Klein-Krotzenburg, only the Klingenberg vineyard is entered along the entire course of the river, albeit without naming it as such.

Later a "cross of stone" was erected on this vineyard, "which, visible from afar, beautifies the square, on a point that offers a wide, beautiful view". Unfortunately, there is no further information about this cross, but it must have been in the immediate vicinity of the former chapel.

On June 25, 1887, the newly built chapel, beautifully located on the mountain, with the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes was ceremoniously inaugurated. The parish had done everything they could to glorify the festival. When the statue in the church was blessed after a short prayer, an extraordinarily large procession moved through the richly decorated streets of the town out to the mountain. Girls dressed in white carried the statue of Our Lady, others scattered flowers, carried wreaths and lilies. Young and old, big and small, they all wanted to take part in the procession in honor of the Mother of God, and many an old man was seen laboriously moving along with the staff. Once at the top, the chapel was first blessed. The Rev. Mr. P. Guardian then gave a sermon to the crowds that corresponded to the noble celebration, which will probably remain in the memory and heart of every listener for a long time. The devotion to the Heart of Mary concluded the great celebration. The pious pilgrims continued to pray at the new place of worship for a long time. - The thanks of the community and the surrounding area cannot be expressed enough to the noble men who came up with the plan for the work that succeeded so beautifully under the blessing of heaven; no less those who carried out the work in such a selfless manner and with great sacrifices of time and money. - It won't be long before the new place of worship will be a powerful attraction for people near and far. May Mary the Immaculate hold her hand of shield and protection over the community of Mainaschaff and give help, comfort and blessing to all pious visitors to the new place of worship."

Exactly 3 years later, on June 24, 1890, the Stations of the Cross were inaugurated.
