This is not yet a fully-fledged forest, but it is well on its way. There is a - now certainly - wetter path (with a small piece of boardwalk in the beginning) with some private area and exotic plants. But work is being done on it, you will find spring bloomers there and a new nature management plan has just been drawn up "Walenbos and Tieltse Motte" which includes it. A lot of felling was done in the winter, precisely to remove invasive exotic species and to achieve more diversity. And we know that simply because the information is neatly posted. It will be beautiful – and a relief after a less stretch of GR 512 if you come from Diest. At one of the entrances you will also find a tree chapel if that interests you - and there are also two larger chapels just outside the entrances. And you can guess or discover for yourself what that owl is doing in the photos.
