The obelisk is a replica of the obelisk from Magdesprung.
This was rebuilt in 1995 and is a highlight in the park.

The history of the Degenershausen Landscape Park began in 1834 when the Braunschweig councilor Johann Christian Degener acquired the area between Neuplatendorf and the garden center of Falkenstein Castle and gave it as a wedding present to his daughter Amalie when she married the chamberlain Hans-Constantin von Bodenhausen.
The district councilor Degener attached the stipulation to this gift that the resulting town would be called Degenershausen, and he stipulated in a document that the name “Degener” should be included in his daughter's noble name and that a monument should be erected as a legacy to him. In 1835, Johann Christian Degener had the manor house and the associated farm buildings built and the park laid out. After his death, a striking cast-iron obelisk was erected in his honor, but it had to be torn down in 1968 due to severe damage. In 1993 it was rebuilt at its old location as part of the comprehensive park renovation. The burial site of the von Bodenhausen-Degener family has been on a hill near the pond since 1918. The park has undergone many changes over time and has existed in its current form since 1924.

The enthusiasm for English parks that developed while traveling led to the fact that, fascinated by the design of the Kew Garden, he invited the chief architect to Degenershausen and gave him the order to redesign the facility. Hans-Wilke Degener brought many of the trees he planted with him from Africa, North and South America. Today the park covers an area of twelve hectares and is home to more than 175 species and genera of native and foreign trees. The spacious area with well-kept individual trees, groups of trees and flowering meadows (in spring with many thousands of crocuses and daffodils) offers visitors plenty of space for peace and relaxation. There are 2.8 km of paths running through the park, which are of course also suitable for wheelchair users. During the park tour you can get an overview of selected trees and shrubs with the help of a “park guide” (flyer). A small pond, the blue eye of the landscape park, invites you to linger.

Very beautiful, spacious park with some very old trees. Not quite as sterile as other parks give this area its charm. Nature is still in control here - not the lawn mower or leaf vacuum 😉
Obelisk: This object is somewhat unusual, but as we all know, taste can be debated.
Nevertheless, the tall metal obelisk is still very well maintained.
