Every year, the city of Munster organizes a so-called public cycling event with the Bundeswehr, and here the cyclists & Komootler have the opportunity to take a closer look at the village of Lopau (Munster-Nord).
Words like "ghost village" or "lapsed" are circulating on the Internet, which is no longer the case and you can easily see it in the pictures. The remaining houses and courtyards appear very well maintained.
Otherwise...the village was actually first mentioned in 1293 and it wasn't until 1983 that the last steadfast residents left the village!
Now it is used and maintained by the Bundeswehr

The small village of Lopau, no longer inhabited since the 1980s, is located in a picturesque area, deep in the forest. The little river Lopau feeds several lakes and ponds, some of them beautiful.
Since the village is now on a military training ground, you can only enter it when the barrier at the entrance to the village is open.
Around the village there are very pretty hiking trails, which ones you can walk on can be seen on a sign next to the barrier at the entrance to the village.
