Congress Hall, Nazi Party Rally Grounds, Nuremberg
Along with the "Strength Through Joy" seaside resort in Prora on Rügen, the Congress Hall is one of the largest surviving single buildings from the Nazi era. If completed, it would have been used only once a year during the Reich Party Rallies for the "Party Congress." Hitler would have galvanized the Nazi Party members with his keynote speeches.
The foundation stone was laid during the Reich Party Rallies on September 11, 1935. The Congress Hall has a floor area of 275 by 265 meters. For its construction, not only were forest areas near the Dutzendteich lake cleared, but thousands of gravel pillars were also driven into the muddy subsoil, upon which the several-meter-thick concrete foundations rest. Upon completion, the Congress Hall would have been approximately 70 meters high. Construction work was significantly reduced after the outbreak of war in 1939 and finally stopped completely in 1942, except for safety measures. By then, the current height of almost 40 meters had been reached.
The interior of the hall, the so-called inner courtyard, now open to the sky, the upper floors of the rotunda, which contains exclusively service areas for access to the unbuilt hall, and the entire interior furnishings remained unfinished. To this day, the rotunda remains a shell of brick and concrete; only the exterior façade of solid granite shows its final form.

Another example of Hitler's megalomania is the Congress Hall. The hall would have accommodated 50,000 people and would have been spanned by a cantilevered roof construction at a height of 70m. The spectator stands were aligned with the center with the pulpit for the "Führer", the lighting would have been provided by natural light illumination of the partially glazed roof. The building itself is brick masonry with an outer facade made of granite blocks, the arcade with the 6m high doors and the large columned hall in the documentation center are worth seeing.

The Nuremberg Congress Hall is one of the most impressive buildings of the National Socialist era.
Adolf Hitler laid the foundation stone on September 11, 1935 as part of the "Reich Party Day of Freedom". The new congress hall was to be handed over to the Nazi Party Congress in 1943. The interior of the hall should offer enough space for 40,000 seats and 10,000 standing places.
