    O Elisenbrunnen/-garten recebeu o seu nome em homenagem a uma princesa. Refere-se a Elisabeth Ludovika, chamada Elise, filha do rei bávaro Maximiliano I. A 29 de novembro de 1823, casou-se com o futuro rei prussiano Frederico Guilherme IV. Por ocasião deste casamento, o conselho municipal de Aachen decidiu nomear a fonte, concluída poucos anos depois, em homenagem à noiva. Na rotunda da fonte, um busto recorda até hoje a bela princesa.
