The Wittelsberger Warte stands on a 257.8 m[1] high small basalt hilltop, which towers over the immediately adjacent Wittelsberg settlement area by a maximum of 40 m[2], on the southeast edge of the Amöneburg Basin.
The Landwehr, of which the Wittelsberger Warte was a part, ran northeast to Roßdorf and southwest to Heskem, where there were once also waiting stations.
The control room is a round tower surrounded by a wall-moat system with vertical embrasures for the use of crossbows and handguns. The entrance was raised and could only be reached via ladders. There was probably a palisade on the wall.
Today an arcade made of hornbeams leads from the village to the watchtower and church. The tower cannot be entered, but from its base there is a good view over the Amöneburg Basin, including: to Frauenberg and Amöneburg.
