Oudenaarde has been the place to go for fruity beer for centuries. Years ago, there were 20 breweries in the city, of which Liefmans is and was one - for 300 years, by the way. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the latest fruit beers on the terraces along the Scheldt.

The story of Liefmans began in the 17th century when Jacobus Liefmans established himself as a brewer in Oudenaarde. The original brewery buildings have been preserved and are part of the living museum that you should definitely visit. The history of the famous cherry beer is more recent, however: it was not until 1900 that Liefmans started filling its barrels with cherries on a small scale. Local farmers brought their cherry surpluses to Liefmans and received beer in return.

Liefmans have been using this site to brew their distinctive fruity flavoured beer for centuries.
It’s well set up for visitors and the brewery is now effectively a working museum. I suggest stocking up and enjoying a few after the ride!
