The Engeratsgundsee is a high mountain lake at an altitude of 1876 meters in the Allgäu Alps. It is located on the eastern slope of the Grosser Daumen in the Allgäu layers of the Jurassic period. Above the lake, the cover layers of main dolomite begin.
The lake has been designated as an important geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment.

Access
The normal route to the lake leads via the uncultivated Käseralpe (1401 m), which can be reached from the Giebelhaus, the Engeratsgundhof or the Schwarzenberghütte. The direct route from Hinterstein via Möslealpe (1133 m), past the abandoned lower, middle and upper Hengstalpe over the so-called Türle, a pass between Hengst and Daumengruppe, is rarely used. The crossing through the Koblat to the Edmund-Probst-Haus at the Nebelhornbahn is often used as the way back after climbing the Hindelanger Klettersteig.
