The Ringbahn Nürnberg is the goods ring that runs around Nuremberg city center at a distance of three to four kilometers.
On July 1, 1899, the first part of the “Nordring” followed from Nuremberg East (on the Nuremberg–Cheb railway line) via Nuremberg Northeast to Nuremberg North station. This was connected to the Südring on May 1, 1900, with the opening of the dozenteich–Mögeldorf/Ostbahnhof route.
The "ring closure" finally took place in two stages: On May 1, 1905, the extension from Nuremberg North to Nuremberg Northwest was opened, on October 1, 1910 the last section followed from Nuremberg Northwest to the Muggenhof junction and from there to Fürth (to the railway line Nuremberg–Bamberg) and via Großreuth to the existing southern part of the Ringbahn. This completed the approx. 30 km long ring.
The southern part of the Ringbahn was double-tracked as early as 1903, and in 1935 the section from the main station via the dozen pond and marshalling yard to the railway line to Augsburg was electrified. For the construction of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds on the area between Luitpoldhain, dozen pond and Langwasser, the connection from the marshalling yard to the Nuremberg–Regensburg railway line was moved 1.6 km to the south-east in 1938: the original connection was from the west end of the entry yard, leading in an arc north of the Passed the Zollhaus district and split up at the level of the Stadionbad to join the Nuremberg–Regensburg railway in the direction of Regensburg or along today’s allotment garden colony in the direction of Nuremberg main station. The new route connects to the east end of the entry station, then turns left and runs right through what is now the Langwasser district (then: Märzfeld north and SA camp south of the route), to branch off after the flyover over Gleiwitzer Straße and on to meet the railway line to Regensburg. The existing Zollhaus station was relocated to the new route and a new station was built at Märzfeld (today: Nuremberg-Langwasser) in order to be able to transport the expected crowds to and from the annual party conferences.
