Thanks to the proximity of numerous other Munros, hikes up Creag Leacach are most often combined with multiple other peaks and serious Munro-bagging expeditions are common. This 3,238-foot (987 m) mountain rises above the Devil’s Elbow on the impressive A93 and is often hiked with Glas Maol.
There are several obvious starting points and your choice depends on which other Munros you’ll be throwing into the day. Starting at Cairnwell Pass is popular for those bagging all of the Glas Maol Munros. For a prettier hike, start at Auchavan to the south instead.
However you reach Creag Leacach’s summit, on a clear day, the views are tremendous. The A93 to the Cairnwell Pass winds up through the valley below with the Cairnwell itself standing to the north west. Behind it, the Cairngorms stack up on the horizon, whispering of adventures to come. Southwards, it looks like the rolling mountains continue forever, despite the lowlands of Strathmore not being far away.
Hike year round but winters can be severe and the domain of experienced winter mountaineers only.

Creag Leacach is a 987m Munro mountain in the Scottish Highlands. The pass that leads up to the Glenshee Ski Centre (A93) is perfectly placed to allow a high start point for this Munro. Unusually, the summit cairn of this Munro is along a wall that runs up and over the rocky summit.

Descent was harder than going up, it can be very slippery and it’s very steep. it may be wise to reach the top and then turn back on yourself.

No ski scarring so I actually think this is an under rated Glenshee munro.
