Passo de Oberalp

At the Oberalp Pass at 2,044 meters, not only is the obligatory "passport photo" waiting at the Oberalp Pass sign, but also the only lighthouse in the Alps. It comes from Rotterdam, where the original lighthouse can be found in the Maritime Museum, which once stood in Hoek van Holland, at the mouth of the Rhine into the North Sea - thus completing the circle from the source to the mouth.

At an altitude of 2,046 meters, you have reached the highest point of the pass. Even in summer, there can still be snow here, so it is advisable to have appropriate clothing ready. If you are still cold, you can warm up in one of the restaurants or accommodations. You will also find the Rhine Sources Information Center up here, as the Rhine springs just three kilometers away. A hiking trail takes you to the source if you feel like taking a detour. There is also a train station on the Oberalp Pass. It is on the Andermatt-Disentis/Mustér railway line.

Although pleasant temperatures, but the Thomasse (origin of the Rhine), it was unfortunately not possible to go by bike or on foot, too much snow .....
