Oberstenfeld is a municipality in the district of Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg, 40 km north of Stuttgart. It belongs to the Stuttgart region and to the outskirts of the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart.

Oberstenfeld is located in the upper Bottwartal in the north-east of the district of Ludwigsburg and has a share in the natural areas of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains and the Neckar Basin. In the north and east it borders on the Löwenstein mountains, to the west the vineyard-covered hills of Forstberg and Wunnenstein rise up. The district of Prevorst is located on the forest heights of the Löwenstein mountains in a community exclave, surrounded by the areas of four communities in the Heilbronn district and the Rems-Murr district. At 517.5 m above sea level. NHN is measured at the district boundary north of Prevorst, the highest elevation of the entire municipal area as well as the district of Ludwigsburg.

The three districts form residential districts within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code and the two districts of Gronau and Prevorst together form a village within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code with its own local council and mayor as its chairman. Gronau is immediately north-east of Oberstenfeld, Prevorst is about five kilometers north-east of Oberstenfeld in the Löwenstein mountains. Prevorst is separated from the rest of the municipal area and forms an exclave between the district of Heilbronn and the Rems-Murr district. At 483 meters above sea level, it is the highest town in the Ludwigsburg district.
