This spacious cave, about 20 meters long, five meters high and up to ten meters wide, is located in the hollow rock above Happurg. It forms one of the foothills of the Jura plateau to the west, which slopes down relatively steeply to Hersbruck Bay.

Hohler Fels (Happurg) is the name of a karst cave near Happurg on the Franconian Alb. In addition to the cave, the neighboring rock face also bears this name. The cave, which opens to the south, is 546 meters above sea level, below the former Celtic fortification called Houbirg (617 meters). The 16 meter long and six meter high cave on the southern slope of the summit was registered as a ground monument in the Bavarian list of monuments because of finds from the Stone Age and the Urnfield Age. There is a natural bridge with two openings in front of the cave.
