          The official name of the largest religious building in Glauchau is "St. George's Church". The people of Glauchau call it, briefly and familiarly, George's Church. The building is a defining feature of Glauchau's townscape, and the church tower can be seen from afar. Standing on the town terrace above the Mulde valley, it towers over the center. The old church was badly damaged by a town fire in 1712 and finally had to be demolished in 1726. The new building of the church was consecrated on February 15, 1728.
          The organ was completed in 1730. With 27 registers, the organ is one of Silbermann's larger two-manual organs and is therefore the fourth largest of the surviving instruments.
