    The striking tower is located opposite the Emden train station on Abdenastraße.
    The 42 m high tower was built between 1910 and 1912 to supply the city with water. Today it is owned by Stadtwerke Emden and is still used as a water reservoir.
    The 1,000 m³ water reservoir at the top of the tower is supported by 10 reinforced concrete pillars, which are connected to each other by cross braces. The pillars in turn stand on a foundation of 260 piles with a length of 15 m.
    Since the groundwater in the urban area of Emden is saline due to its proximity to the North Sea, a waterworks was built in the village of Tergast, more than 11 km away, between 1896 and 1897, the water from which is routed to Emden via a pipe system. The water is pumped from a freshwater lens by means of deep wells.
