The Hochalp is widely known as a popular excursion destination and exudes unique charm, especially in winter. The starting point in the Bruggerenwald above Urnäsch is easy to reach by car. The route leads first through the forest and later over the hills to the Hochalp, with a climb of around 340 metres. Once at the top, the view sweeps over the Appenzell hills and the Säntis massif. The impressive winter landscape never ceases to fascinate. For the descent, the route briefly follows the toboggan run at Alp Nasen to return to the starting point through the Bruggerenwald.

The rustic, cosy mountain inn on the Hochalp does not have regular opening hours in winter and only offers limited opportunities for refreshments. Please call before the tour. 071 364 11 15 / 071 364 15 86

Very friendly hosts on the Hochalp again since summer 2021. Open daily during the summer holidays, otherwise closed on Mondays. Open on nice weekends in winter. Recommended barley soup and cold dishes. Great view of the Säntis and the Alpstein.
