Vertical water jet up to 140 meters high. The Geneva Jet d'Eau has become over time a true symbol of the city of Geneva. It was installed at the end of the Eaux-Vives pier in 1891, to mark the 600th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.

The purpose of the Jet d'eau was originally little more than its simple use as a pressure relief valve for a hydroelectric power station. Only later, at the end of the 19th century, did the city decide to turn the fountain, which had previously only been a few meters high, into a tourist attraction. The pressure relief valve was then relocated directly to Lake Geneva and also equipped with a few extra pumps to give the whole thing a little more steam. Since then, the fountain shoots up to 140 meters into the air at 200 km/h and has indeed become a symbol of the city of Geneva.
