“Jungfrauenrast” (at 1075 m) on the old Rhaetian path from Mühlbach up to Meransen.
Once upon a time there were three pious virgins who had strange names: they were called Ampet, Gaupet and Gewerpet, it is said that they were three royal children. They had been down in Italy but had to flee because they were persecuted because of their Christian religion. So they made it up to Latzfons above Klausen. But the people of Latzfons did not welcome them at all and so they had to leave this village and continue their journey at night. So they came to Mühlbach and now they wanted to go up to Meransen. When dawn broke, they sat sadly on a rock halfway between Mühlbach and Meransen. They had nothing to eat or drink and no strength left. As they sat there, one of them began to pray: "Christ, my God, I beg you, help us out of our trouble and give us something to drink so that we don't have to die of thirst!" And lo and behold, a little spring suddenly sprung up from the rock, and the three sisters were able to quench their thirst. Then, after a little while, the other said: "Oh, how hungry we are and we have nothing to eat!" And lo and behold, a cherry tree began to grow before their eyes, and it bent its branches down to the king's children, and there were nothing but sweet cherries hanging from them, and they could satisfy their hunger with them. But the sun rose higher and higher and burned hotly down on the rocks. Then the third said: "Oh, if only we could sit a little under a cool shady roof, then our troubles wouldn't be so great!" And lo and behold, the tree let branches and twigs grow in breadth, so far apart that soon the whole place was in dense shade. The princesses were so happy! Once they had recovered, they climbed further up to Meransen, where they were warmly welcomed by the people of Meransen.
