Huge, rocky cirques, glistening lakes and sweeping views of the Swiss Jura – the hikes in this Collection take you to the Jura & Three Lakes region west of Bern and through a landscape full of contrasts. Sometimes the paths wind their way through dense forests; at other times, wide plateaus open up where horses and cows graze freely. High up on the peaks, you can see the Alps towering in the distance and the lakes of the Central Plateau spread out below like glittering mirrors.

Each hike has its own special scenic highlights. The Creux du Van impresses with its steep rock faces that form a natural arena, while the Chasseralkrete with its gentle ridges offers spectacular views. The vineyard trail winds its way through sun-drenched vineyards, while on clear days you can see as far as Mont Blanc from the Dent de Vaulion. If you’re seeking alpine solitude, you’ll find it on the Chasseron, from whose summit the whole expanse of the Jura opens up.

In the traditional métairies – the mountain inns typical of the region – hearty specialities such as crispy rösti, spicy alpine cheese and smoked ham await. The winegrowing villages on Lake Biel invite you to sample the regional wines, while rustic cuisine meets authentic hospitality in the cosy inns.

Most of the hikes are easily accessible by public transport but, if you’re travelling by car, you’ll find parking facilities at many starting points. We’d recommend checking the journey times of cable cars or gondolas in advance. For the safest and most enjoyable experience, make sure you’re well prepared before you head off into the mountains. Take appropriate clothing and footwear, plenty of food and water, and check the weather forecast regularly.
