Sobre Cycling Thread
I am a cycling journalist and travel writer who spends most of the year exploring long-distance routes across Europe. I run the website Cycling Thread, where I share stories, photos and practical tips from journeys along rivers, through mountains and around lakes. My goal is to inspire others to discover Europe by bike and to show how cycling tourism can be both enjoyable and sustainable.

Over the years I have ridden many of the continent's most famous routes, from the Loire and the Elbe to the Carinthian Lake Loop and the Baltic coast. I enjoy combining cycling with train travel, making it easier to reach new places without a car. On Komoot I share my routes so other cyclists can find ideas for their own adventures.

The quality of the cycling infrastructure along the VeloDunajec is exceptionally high by Polish standards. Long stretches follow smooth asphalt paths separated from car traffic, often built on flood embankments or along quiet riverside corridors. Dedicated cycling bridges and well-designed rest areas

The Vistula Cycling Route, part of EuroVelo 9 in Pomorskie, gives you a peaceful ride along both banks of the Vistula River. It stretches roughly 278 km and forms a loop from Gdansk through Tczew, Gniew, Nowe, Grudziadz, Kwidzyn, Mikoszewo and back to Gdansk. The route feels relaxed, historically rich and perfect for multi-day adventures or shorter escapes in the river valley. Thanks to new investments it now shines with fresh paths, rest stops and bright orange EuroVelo 9 signs. You ride mostly on smooth bike paths and quiet public roads with very low traffic, plus some flood-dyke sections that are asphalted and flat. The terrain is easy to follow, even for families or casual riders. Signage is clear and visible, making navigation simple and stress-free. Overall it is a comfortable

Vorarlberg in western Austria is a hidden gem for anyone who loves mixing mountains, valleys and lakes on two wheels. A five-day journey links short valley routes into one epic ride, from the high Silvretta Alps down to the Rhine and Lake Constance. You pass peaceful towns like Bludenz, Lech am Arlberg, Mellau, Andelsbuch and Feldkirch, and end up in lively Bregenz with its floating opera stage. It is scenic, varied and totally rewarding.

The Tauber-Altmühl Radweg in Franconia is a really pleasant German cycling getaway linking two river valleys. It starts around Rothenburg ob der Tauber, then crosses a watershed before following the Altmühl River down to Kelheim. The scenery mixes charming medieval towns and gentle countryside with rocky Jura landscapes. It's a great choice for a 3- to 5-day ride if you want a chill but scenic escape.

You’ll find a mix of surfaces: smooth paved bike paths, quiet local roads and some gravel or crushed-stone trails, especially in the Altmühl Valley. Signage is good, which helps a lot with navigation. There’s a noticeable climb when crossing the watershed, but after that the gradient becomes much gentler

The Szczecin Lagoon Cycle Route is a Polish-German loop of about 300 km that circles Szczecin Lagoon and Lake Dabie. Around two thirds of the route run through West Pomerania in Poland, while the rest continues on the German side. It offers a mix of lagoon, river, forest and seaside views, with the landscape changing often to keep the ride engaging. Thanks to decent train access, it works both for longer holidays and for shorter breaks.

The Lower Lusatia Mining Route is a cycling loop of around 400 to 500 km through southern Brandenburgs Lusatian Lakeland. It runs across a landscape once shaped by lignite mining that is now turning into one of Europes largest artificial lake districts. You ride through a region that tells the story of industry giving way to nature. The route feels safe, interesting and surprisingly refreshing for an area that was once all mines. The Baltic Sea Coast section of EuroVelo 10 in Pomorskie runs for about 300 km from Ustka to Elblag. It is an adventurous stretch that takes you through seaside towns, forests, dunes and historic spots like Leba and Puck. The route feels natural and a bit wild, leaning more on landscapes and changing views than polished tourism. It is a coastal ride full of variety and energy.

We cycled the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route in northern Germany, part of EuroVelo 10, from Lübeck to Stralsund. The route follows the Ostseeküsten-Radweg and is one of the most popular long-distance cycling routes in the country. It combines Baltic Sea landscapes, fields of blooming rapeseed and towns full of Hanseatic heritage. We wanted to see how this German section compares to other parts of EuroVelo 10 we knew before.

The surfaces were excellent and made cycling smooth and easy. Most of the way runs on separated bike paths, often paved and always well maintained. Even when the path is not asphalted, it stays solid and safe to ride. Clear signage, frequent rest stops and calm local roads make this route very comfortable.
