The romantic valley can be found in the Upper Harz Mountains, more precisely on the way from Ilsenburg to the Brocken. The Ilsetal bears the name of the river Ilse, which has its source on the Brocken. On its way to Ilsenburg, the wild little river overcomes a height difference of 120 meters over a section of about one kilometer. At these Ilse falls, the water forms small and larger cascades and crashes loudly over rocks. The shore invites you to linger and promises to cool off on hot days.

The Ilsetal is best explored on the Heinrich-Heine-Weg. The trail's famous namesake hiked along the falls in 1824. He made the natural spectacle world famous through one of his most famous works – the “Harz Journey”.
