The Shanxi Guild Hall is a Chengdu City Protected Historical Site. It is in the Rongcheng Hotel locates at No.130 Shanxi Street, Qingyang District of Chengdu. It was firstly built in the second year of Emperor Kang Xi of Qing Dynasty (1663AD), was a place for the Shanxi people who lived in Sichuan to worship their ancestors, negotiate business, meet friends and families, and accommodate the travelers. It was expanded and renovated in the second year of Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty (1797AD) to be the Palace of the Medicine King for the worship to Sun Simiao, later it was destroyed in a war; In the eleventh year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, advocated by Chen Yu, the Shanxi-born governor of Sichuan, 33 Shanxi shops including “Qingyi” and “Yitai” of Chengdu raised money and rebuilt it, which has remained to be the current architecture. The whole building is solemn and dignified, simple and powerful; In the layout and decoration, it has inherited the excellent tradition of Chinese ancient architectures, and reflects the high level of Qing Dynasty construction. On the tablet of the guild hall it was written by Yu Youren the four characters of “Shanxi Guild Hall”. The street before the Shanxi Guild Hall used to be called Furong Street (Hibiscus Street), as there were many hibiscuses in the street. After the Shanxi Guild Hall was found, people started to call it Shanxi Street.
