"The water tower in Pfalzfeld is located directly on the Schinderhannes cycle path on a former railway line. The dream loop "Baybachquellen" also runs right past here and offers a great view of the historic building.
After the construction of the railway line from Boppard to Simmern in 1906, the water towers were used to keep a large amount of process water available for the steam engines of the steam locomotives. The water was filled using water cranes that were set up at each stop. The Pfalzfeld water tower is 18 m high and has a foundation with a diameter of 8.50 m. The water tank has a diameter of 6.60 m and a height of 3.50 m. With a capacity of around 100 cbm, around 5-6 tenders of small locomotives could be filled. In winter, the tower was heated to prevent the water from freezing.
