1957 Start of sinking as shaft 3 of the Heinrich colliery.

1968 The Heinrich colliery is shut down. The shaft remains open for water drainage.

"... Directly on the Ruhr, the Heinrich 1/2/3 pit was built from 1847. The operating area was not very large, since the coal mined was not suitable for the production of coke and only briquettes were produced. The pits at this location were still to come two air shafts in the nearby Deipenbeck valley. No traces of them have survived. The same applies to a few days' work.
Today almost all colliery buildings have disappeared. One hall is used for commercial purposes. In the area of shaft 2, a residential complex for the elderly with a small park was built at the site of the colliery power plant. Shaft 3 is still open and is part of RAG's central dewatering system. Around 2500 m³ are pumped every hour. Apart from a slightly increased iron content, the water is of such good quality that the city of Essen has classified it as a drinking water reserve (in the event of a disaster).
