      The Liebknecht-Luxemburg demonstration in memory of the revolutionary socialists Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg, who were murdered on January 15, 1919, takes place annually around the date of their death, on the second weekend in January, and usually runs from the Frankfurter Tor to the memorial of the socialists the central cemetery in Friedrichsfelde. However, the focal point in the GDR era was not the Revolution Monument but the Socialist Memorial, which was newly created in 1951 at the southern entrance to the cemetery.
