The “Bridge over the Aller” project has created an important cycle path connection between Wahnebergen and Verden, which is of great importance for both commuter traffic and tourism. It includes the construction of a cycle bridge that was attached to the new railway bridge, as well as the establishment of cycle protection lanes in relevant road areas in order to create a consistently attractive cycle route to Verden train station.

The new cycle path connection not only serves to improve bicycle mobility, but is also part of a larger commitment to climate protection and sustainable mobility solutions. The project was funded with 1.8 million euros by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety and aims to create short and safe traffic routes for cyclists and to provide good parking options. In this context, the city of Verden has created numerous new secure parking spaces in the inner city area and made further investments in the cycle path infrastructure.

The official release of the cycle path connection took place on October 2, 2019 and was celebrated with various activities and cycle tour suggestions on German Unity Day. In addition to improving mobility, the new connection helps to promote e-bike use by setting up six bike parking facilities with e-bike charging stations in Verden.

The cycle bridge and the associated cycle path connection not only improve the transport connection between Wahnebergen and Verden, but also actively promote cycle traffic and thus support an environmentally friendly and sustainable form of mobility.
