The Helm rises in isolation to the southeast of Kendal above Oxenholme and Natland. Once home to an Iron Age hillfort, its 607-foot (185-m) top enjoys grand views across Kendal towards Lakeland and to the east to the green folds of the Howgill Fells. Scout Scar’s proximity to Keswick and the glorious views it provides from its 771-foot (235-m) summit makes it a very popular objective. It’s the main highlight of this short loop that follows Brigsteer Road from the town centre onto the hillside.

Eine Variante unserer Tour vom 07. 10. 2025 aber bei einem angenehmeren Wetter. Diesmal besteigen wir die Aussichtsdüne Tuttes Bjerg am Ortseingang. Gehen danach durch den nördlichen Teil der Ferienhaussiedlung. Die Straße mündet in das Gebiet der Lyngbohede. Hier ist der Weg etwas beschwerlicher. Gestern hat es den ganzen Tag geregnet und an manchen Stellen ist der schmale Pfad durch größere Pfützen versperrt. Später biegen wir links ab und wandern auf einem schmalen Weg durch die breite Dünenkette, Hier hat sich im Laufe der Jahre mitten in den Dünen ein Feuchtbiotop gebildet. Über die letzte hohe Düne geht es dann steil hinab zum Meer. Wir haben wieder auflaufendes Wasser, Ebbe war vor ca. 20 Minuten. Im Sonnenschein (!) geht es an der Dünung entlang und zurück in den Ort. Nach einer Rast am Isehuset zurück zum Ferienhaus. Gerade noch rechtzeitig, es zieht eine Regenfront auf!
