The overnight stay before the stage in the Hotel Schynige Platte is worthwhile. Nice rooms, good dinner and breakfast, nice atmosphere in the evening and in the morning, few people and you can get an early start in the morning. The latter is an advantage in uncertain weather to arrive in First before afternoon heat storms.

The high-altitude hike from Schynige Platte to First is one of the most beautiful in the Bernese Oberland. This 16-kilometer tour takes about 6-7 hours and offers breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Highlights:

-Schynige Platte: Accessible by cog railway, offers impressive views.

-Faulhorn: Highest point at 2,681 meters, ideal for a break.

-Bachalpsee: Picturesque lake with a reflective mountain panorama.

-First: End point with the cable car back to Grindelwald.
