The lock and port city that connects seas. Brunsbüttel is located at the southern end of the approx. 99 km long Kiel Canal, internationally known as the Kiel Canal. The world's busiest artificial waterway connects the North Sea (Elb estuary) with the Baltic Sea (Kiel Förde). Here you can see one of the largest lock systems in the world, which gives shipping access between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Very interesting, you can make a stop now and then. The construction of the lock system ensured that Brunsbüttel developed into an attractive port and lock town on the Elbe and the Kiel Canal. While the canal served more military purposes in Kaiser Wilhelm's time, today you can experience the big "pots" from all over the world up close here.
