The stone really does wobble, I've tried. And it has been doing so since the Ice Age. According to the information board, it didn't wobble for a while (1960 to 2000). The cause was vandalism. It is therefore a nature reserve and tampering with it is punishable.

The information text also states that the stone is about four by three by two meters in size and weighs between 30 and 35 tons.

Bornholms biggest rocking stone in the Paradisbakkerne
In the paradise hills (Paradisbakkerne) you will find the largest and most famous of the three big rocking stones. Park in the parking lot at Lisegårdsvejen and follow the signs to the stone. The stone itself was deposited here by the last ice age masses and weighs about 35 tons.

What is the geological significance of Rokkestenen?

Rokkestenen is a prime example of a 'glacial erratic' or 'vandreblok', meaning it's a boulder transported and deposited by the massive ice sheets during the last ice age. Its unique geological significance lies in its size (approximately 35 tons) and its peculiar ability to rock due to its specific placement on a stable base, a testament to the powerful forces that shaped Bornholm's landscape.

Always check local weather conditions before heading out.

Are there any local legends or historical stories associated with Rokkestenen?

Yes, Rokkestenen is steeped in local folklore. One popular legend tells of a troll from Pedersker who attempted to throw the stone at a church tower but missed, landing it in Paradisbakkerne. Another belief suggests the massive stone rests on a diamond. Historically, the stone and its surroundings have been protected since at least 1894, highlighting its long-standing cultural significance.

What is the best way to make the Rokkestenen rock?

The Rokkestenen is known for its ability to gently rock when force is applied in the right spot. Visitors often find success by jumping on a small plateau on one side of the stone. It's a subtle movement, but the sheer size of the stone makes even a slight wobble impressive. Information boards at the site may offer further guidance on how to experience this unique phenomenon.
