Built in the 11th century, it boasts a rich history and extraordinary architectural and artistic elements, such as the Baroque high altar and the Norman crypt with artistic and sacred treasures. Its imposing structure and precious internal works of art reflect the mixture of Byzantine, Norman and Romanesque influences.

The Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in Calabria. It was built on the remains of a pre-existing sanctuary (Santa Ciriaca) dating back to the 8th century, between 1085 and 1120 under Norman rule. The three-nave building with a Latin cross in Byzantine-Romanesque-Norman style measures 1898 square meters and is the largest Romanesque church in southern Italy.
