    At this point the visitor will find the homeless cemetery in Westerland. A "cemetery of the homeless" describes a cemetery in which mainly unknown fatalities are buried, which were washed up on the beach after shipwrecks and heavy storms. The cemetery was laid out in 1855 and houses fatalities who washed up on Sylt's beaches. Each grave is adorned with a wooden cross with the date and place of the find.
